Not a best-of list
Why Chinese name generators fail
They are good at being instant. That is the product. A native name is slow on purpose: grammar first, then whether a person would wear it without explaining. We will not pretend to beat a spinner on speed.
Paste the name a generator already gave you.
| Axis | Generators / $10 files | Native first impression |
|---|---|---|
| Time | Instant. A spinner and a PDF. | Days. Structure, then raters. We do not claim to be faster. |
| What is optimized | Phonetic spelling, MBTI, “pretty” graphs, calligraphy. | 姓 + 名 grammar, then a native first impression. |
| The number they show you | A score, a match percentage, a lucky stroke count. | A distribution of rater answers — or, today, an honest n = 0. |
| Tattoo / badge risk | High if you ink a salad name, a caption, or a news-wire string. | Lower if it survives first impression. Still your skin. Still not magic. |
| Price band (Aug 2026) | Free quizzes and lists; about $9.9–$9.99 for a one-shot analysis or calligraphy file. | Not sold on this checker. Native naming is a separate product, and it is not an instant $10. |
Price bands as of August 2026, from public product pages. Tools move prices. The failure mode does not: instant phonetic output is not a name.
Named, factually — not ranked
This is not “best Chinese name generator.” Ranking instant tools against each other rewards the thing that is already broken.
ChineseName.io
MBTI-flavored generator. Personality quiz in, Chinese characters out. That is a typing test glued to a name list, not 姓 + 名.
InkName (getinkname.com)
$9.99 band, calligraphy-led. A brush file of a bad name is still a bad name. Pretty paper does not fix structure.
MyNameCN (mynamecn.com)
$9.9 band, sold as analysis. A paid write-up of a transliteration is still a transliteration.
WhatIsMyChineseName
Free look-up energy. Classroom speed. Same Xinhua pipeline teachers already use.
GoEast
Free plus school. A language program can hand out names as onboarding. Pedagogy is not a native first impression.
We are not discussing every look-alike domain on the internet. The pattern is the same whether the wrapper is a quiz, a brush, or a school welcome packet: the naming system solves for sound and packaging.
What to do instead
If you already have characters, run the checker. If you want a Chinese name that sounds native, get a native name — that intake does not mint one on this page. The verification rubric is the Native First-Impression Protocol.
